Wu-Tang Clan (Band formed 1991) Rap music stars from the Park Hill section of Clifton whose album sales total in the millions. In their pre-performing days they were known as: Robert Diggs, Jason Hunter, Clifford Smith, Rusell Jones, Raekwon, Dennis Coles, Gary Grice, Lamont Hawkins, and ElginTurner. RZA (Robert Diggs) said "We were doing what we were doing on Staten Island for years and years. Nobody outside of here knew there was rap talent. We took it to a whole new level." The band name means "sword family" after a style of martial arts. The band's often explicit lyrics focus on gritty urban issues - drugs, violence, poverty and the hardships they create. Their albums include Enter the Wu-Tang Clan (1993) Wu-Tang Forever (1997).
